Interview with young artist Karolina Meskinyte. She is famous for her fanarts.

                         (Instagram page: @karolinames )

Tell me please about yourself, where were you born, how old are you and where do you study?

-       I was born in Lithuania, a small country in the Baltic region of Europe. I was born in 1996 so I am 22 years old right now. I am a 4th year student in Vytautas Magnus University and my major is East Asian Cultures and Languages. At the moment I am working on my Bachelor thesis and I should be graduating this summer

How long are you drawing?

-       I have been drawing since I could hold a pencil but I started taking art more seriously when I was around 11 years old. I started going to art school when I was 12 and learned some of the basics of art there (I went to art school for 6 years).

How did you came to the idea of doing art?

-       I was always interested in art but my grandparents were the ones who encouraged me to apply for art school. I guess they saw that it's something I really like to do and saw some potential. I am really grateful to them for that.

What was your first fanart?

-       My first fanart was in 2014. It was of Key from SHINee. I still have it somewhere but I never posted it on instagram as it was a big failure hahah. But then a few months later I was in a bad place mentally and was looking for a way to relax. So on Christmas evening I was home alone and decided to try drawing Key again. It helped me to relax and since then it became almost a daily thing to draw something

How long does it take from you to draw a work?

-       This is one of those questions I can never answer properly as it really depends on the drawing, on my motivation and on my speed. But usually, if it's less detailed, more on the sketchy side - less than 2 hours More detailed works can take up from 6 to lets say 10+ hours.

Have you ever sold your fanarts?

-       Yes. I sometimes draw commissions, sell some fanarts I already did or sell prints of my drawings.

What or who is your source of inspiration?

-       Well, most of the fanarts I draw are of SHINee so I guess they are my biggest source of inspiration. I get inspired by their songs, their concepts and etc. Other than SHINee I get inspired from my surroundings and emotions as well.

Who is your favorite artist?

-       If we are talking about the masters of art, I would say Salvador Dali and Van Gogh are my favorite. They both were very different but the way they made their artwork is very interesting and I like both of their styles. And if we look more into these days and some younger artists I admire, one of my favorites is @noma.dic here on instagram. I do admire a lot of other artists too though but these were the first ones on my mind. As for kpop idols, I think it's pretty obvious that it's SHINee and Taeyeon is my favorite female artist.

What do you think about fanarts of other artist's? Do you like them?

-       Of course I do. I get along with some of the other fanartists and I follow a lot of them too. Always interesting to see different styles and approaches

Are you reading instagram comments? If yes, what one is the most inspiring for you?

-       Of course I do, I can't point out a single comment but rather, I feel very touched when people say that they can see emotion in my art or that my art comforts someone.

What is your biggest achievement?

-       I think if things go well, the project I am working on now will be one of my biggest achievements.

Have idols ever seen your fanarts?

-       I was able to give Key and Jonghyun (members of SHINee) a few of my fanarts other than that, I really don't know hahah.

What goals do you have? (if you talk about them)

-       As life is getting more and more hectic and on top of that I feel a lot of pressure on my social accounts as well, I just want to sit back and enjoy what I draw, without feeling anxious about it, other than that, I want to finish the project I'm working on with another fanartist and just see how things go from there.
